Job Description

Elfrida Rathbone Camden is seeking to appoint a Course Leader to work with learners attending their OFSTED registered Leighton College, an FE provision for young people with a learning disability aged 16-25 years of age. The Course Leader will support the Education Manager in the planning, delivery and co-ordination of their Personal Development and Employability programmes. The postholder will also be the first port of call for Leighton College staff regarding student issues including behaviour, attendance, health and safety and safeguarding.28 hours per week, term time only.Role Description:

  • To provide direct and regular supervision to Learning Support Assistants and Learning Mentor; setting targets, implementing guidelines and assisting with any issues individual team members may have, facilitate staff check-ins and team meetings.
  • To arrange and facilitate student reviews as directed and to liaise with parents regarding issues affecting students.
  • To support arrangements for internal verification including providing support to tutors in managing student evidence for accreditation and ensuring deadlines are met prior to submission.
  • To lead on delivery of one or more PSHE modules at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 for at least 4 hours a week
  • To plan and lead the delivery of initiatives to improve the quality and enhancement of the learning experience for students with a learning disability.
  • To lead the ERC Learner Involvement Strategy delivered across Leighton College activities.
  • To take part in Leighton Leadership Team meetings and to attend supervision, team meetings, training etc. as required.
  • Take part in training and development opportunities identified by Director and Education Manager.
  • To attend ERC Education, Learning and Training Subcommittee meetings and other Board meetings and discussions as directed by the Education Manager and Director.
  • To maintain records as required by the Leighton College for tracking, monitoring and quality and audit purposes.
  • To identify, report and respond to any safeguarding concerns following Elfrida Rathbone Camden’s Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policies, liaising with Education Manager and Safeguarding Manager. To follow all other Elfrida Rathbone Camden policies and procedures including those relating to Confidentiality, Equality and Diversity, and Health & Safety.
  • To work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the organisation and carry out any other reasonable duties.
  • All staff must be prepared to be flexible to enable attendance at events such as transition fairs, open days/open evenings or ERC publicity events which may take place in the evening or at weekends.
  • Due to the nature of work the above post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and appointment will only be confirmed if a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure is obtained from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
  • Essential requirements:
  • A professional qualification linked to the delivery of teaching and /or youth and community work.
  • Experience of delivering or coordinating post-16 education, training or learning programmes.
  • Confidence in management and supervision of staff in education.
  • Significant experience of delivering services in diverse community settings to support disabled people.
  • Experience of carrying out staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of planning and delivering education and training services to meet OFSTED requirements.
  • A sound knowledge of good practice and developments in the provision of education for young people with disabilities and SEN.
  • Understanding of equal opportunities issues in education and social care and experience of taking action to address these.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, both verbally and in writing.

  • Be able to communicate and liaise with families/carers regarding the education and welfare of students.
