We are committed to attracting people of all backgrounds, we want our colleagues to reflect our customers and the people we assist.The Insight and Evaluation team supports theMoney and Pensions Service by providing high quality insight into the landscape of financial wellbeing, as well as the delivery and improvements in advice and guidance services to the public.The purpose of the role:To support the Insight and Evaluation team in the following areas:

  • To analyse and interpret population wide data from various sources to input into strategic decision and policy making
  • To provide the organisation with statistical analysis and data modelling using a wide variety of tools and techniques and both internal and external datasets
  • To interpret and communicate complex data in a meaningful and comprehensible way for both internal and external stakeholders
Key Accountabilities:
  • Analysing and interpreting population wide survey data from various sources (e.g. the MaPS Adult or CYP Financial Capability Surveys, the MaPS Debt Advice Need survey as well as external datasets such as Financial Lives, Wealth & Assets Survey, UnderstandingSociety etc) to input into strategic decision and policy making
  • Being expert in statistical and data-modelling techniques
  • Providing analytic input to strategic decision and policy making
  • Working well with internal and external stakeholders
  • Pro-actively contributing to projects and initiatives across the organisation
  • Working in a cross functional capacity with other analysts across the organisation
  • Supporting the team with ad-hoc research / data related requests
Experience Requirements:Essential:
  • Good knowledge of market research techniques and understanding of the implications of survey dataA deep knowledge of statistical and data-modelling tools and techniques, applied to research-type datasets datasets (e.g. survey sampling, weighting, imputation, key drivers analysis, market sizing, segmentation, factor analysis and development of indices/ composite measures)Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsExperience writing up technical analysis into policy-relevant outputs and reports for a non-technical audienceA degree with a significant research methods and statistical analysis component, or relevant qualifications in mathematics, statistics, and/or relevant experience in research and data analysisProven experience in at least one statistical package such as SPSS, Stata, R, Python or other relevant analytical softwareCompetent at using Microsoft Office software such as Excel for data analysis and presentation, and PowerPoint for communicating findings in a clear and compelling way
Desirable:
  • Experience of working on longitudinal datasets
  • Experience of analysing non-survey data sets and applying data science techniques
  • Understanding of financial services, debt advice services or financial education
  • Ability to work with ambiguous, uncertain or incomplete data.
  • Experience of working at pace in a responsive way, able to respond swiftly and responsively to provide data analysis to support the organisation
