Job Description

Locum Consultant GI PhysiologistThe gastrointestinal services division at University College Hospital is one of the largest in the UK, comprising clinical and academic consultant physicians working within the subspecialty areas of upper GI/laser medicine, HPB medicine, lower GI/IBD, nutrition, and clinical physiology. The department is based in University College Hospital, and has a state-of-the-art 7 room endoscopy suite.The Division is seeking to appoint a 6 PA Locum Consultant in GI Physiology for a fixed term period of six months to cover a secondment.The post holder is expected to have broad experience of upper and lower GI functional disorders. Subspecialty interest in some aspect of these disease areas would be desirable.The post holder will deliver three specialist GI physiology clinics weekly, including a weekly clinic in conjunction with the Neuromuscular Complex Care Centre at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square. He/she will be expected to attend the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, departmental clinical governance meetings, journal club and weekly seminars. There is some ward work/ward reviews and the junior team is shared with the nutrition team. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the department’s audit and service development programmes.The main duties of this post include:

  • Providing gastroenterological expertise in both Upper and Lower functional GI disorders.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching both within UCLH and in the wider GI community.
  • Participate in audit, clinical governance, service development and annual appraisal.
  • Operate within the clinical governance and audit framework within the division.
