Job Description

MPA Group of Companies (MPA, Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) and Printed Music Licensing Limited (PMLL)) is looking for a talented lawyer to provide public affairs, corporate governance, compliance and general legal support in its work on behalf of music publishers and the business of music publishing. This is an interesting and multi-faceted full-time role, based in central London, that offers the successful applicant a unique opportunity to utilize and further develop a range of skills and experience within the music publishing industry at both a strategic and operational level.

  • Fully qualified lawyer with excellent academic records
  • At least 5 years post-qualification experience, copyright or commercial experience, company law with excellent drafting skills.
  • Experience working for a music publisher or with collection society, and on international business would be an added advantage.
  • Intellectual agility to move easily between strategic panorama and specific issues and to join the dots’ between the various issues affecting the MPA Group
  • Great legal and business judgment especially in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skill, a natural networker with the ability to build strong and effective relationships
  • Positive team player with a proactive creative and solutions-orientated approach, an interest and awareness in music and developing technologies surrounding it
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, IT literate numerate and proficient with Microsoft Office
  • You will directly advise our CEO and Boards in relation to key projects being undertaken by the MPA Group of Companies and any issues that may arise, alongside the negotiating, drafting and reviewing the full range of commercial agreements including standard publishing industry templates recommended by the Group. Next to working on new initiatives, you will work as the lead counsel on strategic deals, providing day-to-day advice and support across a wide range of legal areas, preparing briefing papers for meetings and relevant corporate events including documentation and management of the process of election of directors to the board of the MPA Group. You will represent the MPA Group of Companies and its members at external meetings as required.The role will normally be based at the MPA offices near Russell Square in Central London.Salary dependent on skills and experience.The rewards and benefits for employees at MPA Group include:
