North Thames Genomics Laboratory Hub - Band 5 Genetic TechnologistWe are seeking an experienced genetic technologist who can demonstrate skilled use of genomic techniques to join the London Rare Disease Laboratory Hub at Great Ormond Street Hospital.Depending on current skills and experience, the postholder will be assigned to one of our process based teams (Preparation; NGS/NIPD; Molecular targeted; Cytogenetic) although rotation between teams may be arranged.The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth running of the North Thames Rare Disease Genomic Laboratory and must be able to demonstrate a high level of skill in molecular and/or cytogenetic techniques; hands on experience in an accredited diagnostic setting will be an advantage. Good communication skills and attention to detail are essential.The Rare Disease Laboratory has an establishment of approximately 140 including technologists, clinical scientists, translational scientists, bioinformaticians and administrative support staff. Along with two Clinical Genetics teams we form a strategic Genetics Unit within the hospital and provide the North London with a Regional Genetics Service serving a population of approximately 10 million. The genetics laboratory provides an in-house diagnostic service for molecular and cytogenetic testing. Cytogenetic testing is provided for both prenatal and postnatal samples using SNP microarray, karyotyping, FISH, qPCR, QF PCR and MLPA. Molecular testing includes a number of common single gene disorders with an extensive next generation sequencing repertoire; we also provide national and international services for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, deafness, craniofacial, metabolic and immune deficiency disorders.We are involved in a number of collaborative research and development projects with colleagues at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Neurology as part of the UCL Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.
