Job Description

Summary Can you bring your conservation knowledge to this close-knit team working across two exciting London properties With some of the most eclectic and diverse collections in the Trusts ownership, Fenton and 2 Willow Road need someone who can champion fantasticcollections and buildings care.Youll also be part of the team ensuring everyday excellence for our visitors as well as developing programmes to ensure our places are relevant, engaging and inspiring to the urban audiences on our doorstep.The salary advertised is inclusive of £4,465 Inner London Weighting allowance per annum.This is a fixed term role until 28th February 2025.Interviews for this role will be held on Monday 15th of May. What its like to work here Youll be both part of a small but agile property team and part of a wider London portfolio team. Working with us will give you a valuable opportunity to build networks, consult and share practices with many regional colleagues.Fenton House is a substantial 17th-century house with far-reaching views across the city, and home to world-class collections of decorative and fine art. By contrast, 2 Willow Road, also in Hampstead, is a 1930s modernist home, designed and lived in by ErnGoldfinger and his family.Working across both London sites presents a valuable opportunity to be closely involved in a range of exciting and forward-thinking initiatives and to be hands on with multiple aspects of heritage and cultural management. What youll be doing Youll lead on the day-to-day management of diverse and significant collections housed in two very different buildings. From ceramics to needlework, early keyboard instruments to twentieth century art and photography, youll care for and present the collections,and help engage people with their stories.Youll manage a Collections Assistant and volunteers, working with them, regional specialists and external communities of interest, to develop our understanding of the significances of the collections for relevant and inspiring interpretation.Youll make sure that our house and collections procedures, environmental controls and cleaning routines are in line with our Museum Accreditation status, compliance and presentation standards. Youll be comfortable switching between planning and hands-on,practical delivery.Youll be a visitor day duty manager on a rota with colleagues, sharing weekend and bank holiday working March to October when the houses are open to visitors. When on duty, youll open and close Fenton or 2 Willow Road and be on call to support volunteersas they welcome and guide visitors. Who were looking for

  • Knowledge of customer care and approaches to optimising visitor enjoyment.
  • Good team player with day to day line management and supervisory skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills enabling relationships to be maintained.
  • Some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure.
  • Willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors.
