Job Description

Job Purpose

  • To improve the level of and timely achievement of English and Maths across learners of Interserve Learning & Employments Transport Sector
  • Ability to deliver Functional Skills up to Level 2 to learners who speak English as a second language
  • To deliver innovative and differentiated sessions which meet the needs of learners from diverse backgrounds
  • Develop sessions that meet the requirements of the core curriculum and key functional skills standards, to ensure that learners achieve positive results
  • To ensure that learners have stretching targets which maintain their motivation, are focused on the challenges ahead and to encourage lifelong learning
  • To challenge all practices and procedures within own role and throughout the organisation, to contribute and ensure continuous improvement and quality
  • To maintain awareness, standardisation of delivery and achievement levels within the Transport Sector and caseload
  • Supporting the Training and Development Managers, and the Strategic Account Manager with upskilling Operational Teams
  • Key Responsibilities
  • To deliver Functional Skills English and/or Maths at Level 1 and Level 2 to cohorts of learners
  • To provide 1:1 or small group support where necessary
  • To diagnose learners English and maths needs and requirements
  • To produce Functional Skills Delivery plans to include assessment plans
  • To prepare and develop innovative sessions, design and deliver group activities to achieve positive outcomes, embedding the learning, wherever possible, to make the sessions relevant.
  • To liaise with relevant key personnel to ensure learners achieve their target whilst on the programme
  • To make required contributions to learners reviews with Training & Development Officers
  • To develop an appropriate Learning Support Delivery Plan with clear teaching and learning aims based on the Initial Assessment and Diagnostic results
  • To complete a full diagnostic assessment of learners English and Maths levels
  • To develop an appropriate additional support learning plan based on the IAG and diagnostic results with clear teaching and learning aims
  • To help overcome learners barriers, to increase analysis and ability to successfully complete the English and maths as part of the programme
  • Core Skills for Functional Skills Delivery
  • Ability to support ESOL learners with their Functional Skills requirement
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with learners of all ages, employers, managers and other professionals
  • Ability to work through and with others for the benefit of the learners
  • Ability to problem solve, innovate, plan, organise, overcome barriers and implement solutions effectively
  • Able to form confident professional relationships with learners
  • Ability and willingness to respond positively and effectively to change and innovation
  • Ability to plan and manage own workload, achieve agreed targets and objectives and evaluate outcomes
  • Organisation and planning skills to ensure that activities are planned properly and records/paperwork completed to deadlines
  • Being prepared to champion equality of opportunity by challenging disadvantage discrimination and stereotypical behaviours
  • Able to travel to work from locations outside the normal work base as required across Cambridge, Peterborough, Fenstanton and Bedford.

  • Knowledge Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • Experience supporting ESOL learners in Education, or Training
  • Have a minimum of GCSE Grade C for Maths and English or equivalent
  • Experience of delivering Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2 Qualifications in Mathematics & English
  • Hold a relevant teaching qualification: Minimum Level 3 Award in Education & Training, PTTLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, City and Guilds 9285 or 730 or equivalent
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Maths & English delivery
  • Ability to work remotely
  • IT Literate with experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Proven experience working and meeting KPIs and targets
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Equality & Diversity practices and legislation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people: colleagues, external partners and agencies
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and on own initiative
  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Experience of delivering Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2 Qualifications in ICT Desirable
  • Level 5 Qualification in Mathematics or English
  • Knowledge of the Functional Skills 2019 Reforms
  • TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Qualification
