Job Description

VENN GROUP The specialists in professional temporary recruitmentPermanent CarpenterLocation:Cambridge Hours:36.5 hours a week, Mon – FriMain responsibilities of the role:

  • Carry out internal and external carpentry/joinery repairs, installing new and repaired timber products
  • Responsible for construction, alteration and repairs of 1st and 2nd fixings, using most kinds of hard and soft wood and manmade material (MDF, Plywood etc) and other specialist carpentry building materials from technical drawings and rough sketch drawings
  • Maintain and repair internal and external fabric i.e. fitting door frames and hanging doors, laying tongue & groove and wood block flooring, repairing wooden frame work to sash bow windows etc., replacing and repairing fascia and barge boards on gable endsinstallation of roof skylights i.e. velux type as well as repairing wood staircases including tread and hand rails; using new and existing materials
  • Keep building staff aware of job progress at all times
  • Sound proof rooms using sound deadening materials
  • Renew suspended ceilings from new and repair if damaged
  • Remove and relay flooring materials, i.e. carpets, carpet tiles, linoleum, rubber, non-slip etc.
  • Paint and preserve any timbers that require it before their fixing (doors, windows, post, external joinery) so that they are fully sealed and treated
  • Replace missing and defective roofing materials, such as tiles, slates and the repairs flat roofing where accessible
  • Assist all other trades when and where necessary
Essential requirements:
  • You will hold a recognised trade apprenticeship and City & Guilds Advanced Certificate (Level 3) in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Experience in aspects of glazing, working with machine shop equipment and working with hand held portable power tools
