Job Description

Protein Biochemistry, Biophysics, Drug Discovery, Protein Misfolding, Assay Development Your new companyBuilt upon decades of research from the true pioneers in the field of protein misfolding diseases, our client is taking a unique approach to drug discovery by utilising their novel quantitative platform, built upon biophysical concepts to map out chemical kineticnetworks associated with misfolding proteins and disease.Following another major funding round, our client is looking to accelerate their platform by leading two small molecule programs towards the clinic, aiming to ultimately offer transformative therapeutic options for millions of patients worldwide.Your new role

  • As a senior member of the drug discovery team, you will lead in-vitro discovery projects, responsible for performing a range of biochemical and biophysical assays (protein purification and kinetics-based aggregation assays) in order to determine interactionsbetween small molecules, proteins and lipids.
  • You will be carrying out analytical biochemical assays (ELISA, Western blots and SDS-Page), additionally supporting the team to automate kinetics-based experiments.
  • Utilising your background in protein biochemistry and biophysics, you will be constantly on the lookout for advances in protein aggregation assays, proposing projects that will improve the platform.
What youll need to succeed
  • You will hold a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry/Biophysics, Protein Chemistry (or a related scientific discipline), including proven experience at a Scientist level in protein science and assay development.
  • You will be competent in the bioanalytical characterisation of proteins (AKTA, SDS-Page, Western blots, optical spectroscopy).
  • You will bring demonstrable experience with chromatography techniques (Affinity/ Ion Exchange/ Size Exclusion).
  • Experience in automation, kinetics-based protein aggregation assays, and solid knowledge on the topic of protein misfolding and aggregation will be an advantage.
