Job Description

Senior Scientist - Gene ExpressionLocation: CambridgeContract: Full-time and permanentSector: BiotechnologySalary: DOE £28,000 - £45,000Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based outside of the centre of Cambridge. They have built a platform to synthesis DNA which provides exciting possibilities for ensuring cheaper, faster and more accurate DNA / gene constructs than traditionalplasmid-based methods. In a key phase of their growth, our client is looking to onboard a highly experienced Gene Expression expert on a full-time and permanent basis.The OpportunityThis is an opportunity for an experienced scientist who has a strong background in gene expression in a range of mammalian cell types who is looking for the next step in their career then this opportunity could be for you. As a Senior Scientist you willbe responsible for:

  • Expression of various genes in mammalian cell lines using non-viral vectors / nanoparticles.
  • Plan, refine and execute experiments which align with overall project plans.
  • Work individually and collaboratively within the R&D teams.
  • Attending and participating in company training and meetings.
  • Troubleshooting new assays.
Skills and Experience NeededThe ideal candidate will have the following:
  • PhD in a biological discipline + industry experience (ideal), or a BSc/MSc + several years of industry experience in gene expression.
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture (essential).
  • Experience of primary cell culture (desired).
  • Expertise in gene construct creation (primer design, transfection, bacterial cell culture, plasmid amplification, DNA cloning etc) (essential).
  • Expertise in other molecular biology techniques including PCR (essential)
  • Experience in troubleshooting and developing laboratory protocols (desired)
  • Excellent communication skills (essential).
