Job Description

Senior Scientist - CNS / Stem Cell Biology - CambridgeThis job opportunity is with an award-winning biotech company in Cambridge that are looking to grow rapidly. They have developed a unique proprietary cell technology that has the potential to be revolutionary in Stem Cell Biology.This is a truly unique opportunity to join an early-stage company and to work on exciting, fast-moving projects. They really are at the cutting edge of molecular/synthetic biology and are looking for a talented Senior Scientist to join their expanding team.Senior Scientist Role:We are looking for exceptional Scientists that possess a solid understanding of the molecular principles underlining the specification of glial cell lineage. You will focus on the delivery of critical research programmes, being involved in the design, execution and reporting of experimental research. This is an opportunity to be part of a world-class team and conduct research with a tangible impact.Responsibilities Include:

  • Working collaboratively with external partners to develop and characterise new cell types/disease models
  • Supporting and supervising junior scientists in the team to deliver R&D programs on time
  • Advising the company in drafting and putting together proposals
  • Working with the product development/management team to achieve planned product launch timelines.
    • Senior Scientist Profile:
  • Possess a PhD in a relevant field of stem cell biology/neuroscience/CNS, with additional experience working with iPSC-derived glia cells (either in academia or industry)
  • Driven by scientific excellence, with strong attention to details and organisational skills
  • Hands-on experience in collaborative project management
  • Be a keen team player who will enjoy working at the interface of the wider science team to support the companys cell type development efforts
  • Enjoy tackling research challenges through critical thinking and inventiveness, demonstrating the highest of research standards
  • Are comfortable and used to working to tight timelines and managing workload and priorities.
    • Essential for this Senior Scientist role:
  • Possess demonstrable knowledge about the molecular mechanisms that define cellular characterisation in the CNS and the associated use of iPSC-derived glia cells for disease modelling
  • Published relevant work in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrable experience culturing human pluripotent stem cells and iPSC-derived glia cells.
  • Experience in cell characterisation methods
  • Project management experience with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supervisory and training experience
    • Desirables:- NGS experience (experimental design/library preparation/data analysis)- Functional characterisation of glial cells- Extensive network in the Neuroscience fieldThis is a fantastic opportunity to join a market leading business that are growing rapidly.
