Central to our work is the detailed characterisation of protein therapeutics and manufacturing processes, achieved principally through a combination of mass spectrometry, biophysical and physicochemical analyses.We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our Analytical Sciences group here at AstraZeneca on a permanent basis! Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Laboratory-based position supporting the characterization of a broad portfolio, including mAbs, ADCs, Bispecifics, enzymes, mRNA and viruses
  • Analysis using LC-MS to monitor post-translational modifications or chemical modifications in support of upstream, downstream and formulation development
  • Analysis of sophisticated biological matrices using sensitive and robust quantitative proteomics methods/workflows
  • Method development and continuous improvement of characterization and/or physicochemical methods
  • Analysis, interpretation, write-up and presentation of data to analytical colleagues
  • Preparation of SOPs and technical reports
  • What we need from you:
  • BSc or MSc experience in biochemistry, chemistry or biotechnology (or related field)
  • Proven experience in analysing proteins using mass spectrometry-based techniques, including experience with proteomics workflows and data analysis
  • Successfully developed and evaluated analytical methods and implemented innovative technologies
  • High attention to detail and excellent quality in reporting/presentation of analytical data
  • Working effectively in a dynamic, forward thinking and cross-disciplinary/cross functional environment
  • Desirable Knowledge/Experience:
  • Hands on MS-based proteomic experience is expected whilst familiarity with mRNA and viruses (AAV) is desirable but not essential
  • Experience or familiarity with biophysical techniques (CD, DSC, AUC, light scattering) to characterize primary, secondary and tertiary protein structure
  • Track record of scientific excellence in terms of publications and/or conference presentations
  • Experience working with HPLC (reversed phase, ion exchange, affinity and size exclusion), electrophoresis, qPCR and ELISA
  • Experience of Bioprocess Development and CMC related activities including experience supporting regulatory filings
