Job Description

Postdoc Fellow – Super Resolution Omics Mapping of ParkinsonsCambridge UK (Cambridge Univiersity)Competitive Salary on OfferAbout the Opportunity: Are you considering an Industry Postdoc where you can make a real impact This might be it!In this role, we are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on the novel and exciting field of super-resolution microscopy and spatial omics analysis to drive greater understanding of the mechanisms of Parkinson’s Disease. The successful applicant will be based at the Steven Lee lab in the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge, and also spend time within the Discovery Sciences Department, taking advantage of the high-throughput imaging capabilities available.Applicants with experience in biophysics, physical chemistry, optics, photonics or related disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with single-molecule fluorescence techniques, hardware automation and programming (ImageJ, MATLAB, etc.) would be advantageous. Candidates should have a keen interest in applying physical methods to complex systems and must enjoy working in a highly multidisciplinary, dynamic and collaborative environment.The scientist will join a vibrant community of PostDoctoral Fellows at both sites, as well as collaborating with the Neuroscience and Omics teams within AstraZeneca. This three-year position will provide an opportunity for publication, patent applications and conference presentations. We are looking for applicants with enthusiasm, a passion for science, good attention to detail and a desire to create new medicines for patients.Essential Education and Experience:

  • PhD degree, preferably in imaging or omics characterization.
  • Scientific excellence experience as shown by previous work, publication list and references from scientific mentors.
  • Experience in imaging and cell-based assays using a variety of technologies.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills, especially the ability to communicate essential details of experimental design and data to others in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to be highly collaborative and work as part of both a large multidisciplinary team. The ability to work with both internal and with external partners in both academia and industry
  • Desirable Qualification:
  • Experience of neuroscience and Parkinson’s Disease aetiology.
