Mechanical Workshop TechnicianStarting Salary £25,798 - £27,501 per annumOpen EndedMRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, CambridgeA Mechanical Technician is required to join a small team in the Technical Instrumentation Workshop of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology providing a service to this world-renowned research laboratory. You will be qualified to HNC level or equivalent, and have substantial engineering experience. The main purpose of the role is to maintain the X-ray generator (day to day running) and provide support for the associated hardware i.e. vacuum pumps, cooling systems, inert gas supplies and filament replacement.As the successful candidate you will also provide similar backup for the electron microscope facility, paying particular attention to the cooled water supplies. In addition to this you will carry out small batch work or manufacture of one offs using machine and hand tools.You should have the ability to use a wide range of manual as well as CNC machines, and preferably be able to write programmes in Trak or HAAS machine code or similar. An ability to weld non-ferrous metals using TIG welding techniques would also be useful.The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
