Mechanical Maintenance Technician Starting Salary: £25,198 - £26,901 per annumBand Salary: £25,198 - £30,762 per annumOn Call and Recruitment and Retention Allowances (RRA) of £7,500 per annumThe MRC, Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a world-class research laboratory, dedicated to understanding important biological processes at the molecular level with the goal of using this knowledge to tackle major problems in human health and disease. The LMB has around 60 research groups and over 600 staff, students and visitors engaged full time in research.The LMB building is a state of the art laboratory facility, which was completed in 2012 and it has a floor area of 32,700m² (GIA). It has specialist research facilities with a highly complex engineering system to enable the ground-breaking science and allow flexibility to support future scientific developments, through ongoing modifications to laboratories and Electron Microscope (EM) suites etc.You will be a member of the Estates and Facilities team at the LMB working as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician. You will be responsible for the mechanical servicing and repairs at the prestigious LMB building, Ares and MRS. This diverse role will be responsible for providing mechanical planned, preventive and reactive maintenance on all plant, systems and services. You will also be responsible for the monitoring and fault diagnostics of computer-controlled Building Management Systems (BMS).You will have completed a recognised Mechanical apprenticeship, or hold the equivalent qualification. You will have a working knowledge of engineering services coupled with a good understanding of aspects of building maintenance on mechanical systems, including BMS, natural and laboratory gas systems, reverse osmosis deionised water systems, steam boilers, ground source heat pumps (GSHP), complex automated lighting systems, fire alarm & fire suppression systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), standby electrical generators, air compressors, chillers, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), Air Handling units (AHU), humidification and dehumidification plant.The LMB, Ares and MRS sites are required to be maintained and kept fully operational 24/7, to meet the Scientific requirements. You will be required to be on an out-of-hours on-call rota system.Therefore, you must hold a valid driver’s licence and be able to arrive at the LMB building within 45 minutes when on out-of-hours on-call duty. This is a full time position working 36 hours per week.
