Job Description

Location: Cambridge (Site Based) - core hours: 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm (Monday to Friday)My client is a Forbes listed global service provider to the largest and most successful blue-chip companies across the Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical sectors.Key examples of these services include Sourcing & Multi-vendor Asset Management, Data Advisory, Programme Management, and Innovation & Customer Engagement.These bespoke services enable their customers to focus on what really matters to them which is often live saving scientific research & discovery.The role of the Laboratory Automation Scientist:

  • Working closely with Scientists in the laboratory doing method development, and finding other innovative ways of using automation to improve the efficiency of daily work
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in their field of Laboratory Automation
  • Develop training packages based on the complex laboratory automation within the customer area that you support, with an aim to increase overall system efficiencies through best use and maintenance practices
  • Establish & maintain strong relationships with the Vendor Service Organisations
  • Provide technical mediation in the event of long running equipment issues involving multiple vendors
  • Act as the first response to critical equipment breakdowns with the Laboratory Robotics/ Robotic Automated Systems and equipment used for High Throughput Screening and Compound Management systems by world leading manufacturers such as HighRes Biosolutions,Agilent (Bravo), Tecan (Evo Liquid Handler), SPT Labtech and Beckman Coulter to name just a few day
  • Ensuring all critical science is protected, maintaining on organised and clean working environment
The Requirements of Automation Equipment Engineer:
  • You will already have 3+ years experience working in an applications / support specialist, or you could be a super user of Automated Equipment/ Robotic Automation ideally on a production line type setting on a Pharma / Research/ Biotechnology or ChemicalManufacturing site
  • Educated to HNC/HND or BEng/Meng level in a relevant engineering discipline such as: Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Scientific / Chemistry based (minimum of a Bachelors degree) would also be considered
  • PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
