IT Manager - helping save the world!Location: Cambridge, some flexible working allowed.Salary: up to £30K - £40K pro-rata, 20 hours per week (increasing slowly 12-24 months) Biodiversity… ding-ding-ding.I’m sure you’ve heard the word crop up on the news of late, but not many IT Managers can say they’ve taken the gloves off in the fight against the climate crisis. That’s exactly what you’ll be doing. If you love tech, reading, tinkering, researching, configuring and building hardware and systems, then this could be your next step.Maybe you’re in a support role and have pushed the boundaries of what you can learn as far as they’ll go. Are you’re out to make an impact, want to work freelance on the side or have a little one on the way and need some days to spend at home while also making their future a little brighterYou’re literally going to empower people to save our one and only planet. Nice! But first, what’s in it for youYou’ll work for an organisation who play a critical role in getting scientific information and evidence into the hands of governments and organisations around the world to make a difference. As a minimum your training and development will be heavily supported, morally through mentoring and access to really talented people, financially with training courses and conference tickets.Honestly, the environment is very cool, you’ll be surrounded by hyper-interesting people who are all passionate about the mission of preserving nature. You’ll have the backing to improve systems where needed which also means… Yup, snazzy technologies. You’ll get to research and work with some of the latest stuff, whether cloud technologies or high-tech computers and be involved with projects to develop tools and exciting software packages. So, how would you like to manage some of that Infrastructure, disaster recovery, coordinate IT support and ensure up-time and dabble with systems design and implementation.Day to day there’s lots to do.Scientists and environmentalists working on critical research can have challenging demands, whether it’s sourcing/creating nature-proof hardware for research in the Amazon or remotely supporting a field scientist whose laptop crashed when sending that report on climate policy. You’ll need to be creative in finding solutions to weird and wonderful problems, so an enjoyment for working with tech is pretty important. You don’t need to have worked with everything under the sun, but an open mind and good initiative will help a lot. You’ll do the big and the small - you’ll ensure new starters have the equipment they need to crack on, work with the finance team to influence budgets and see they’re kept, manage resources, maintain and improve infrastructure, take on projects to upgrade systems and keep them ahead of the curve while managing relationships with external providers and internal stakeholders.Honestly this is a juicy role and the right person will be in their element figuring out how to make folks lives easier and seeing the impact of the work you enable people to do!Hit apply or give us a call to learn more Required skills
