Gi Group are recruiting on behalf of the NHS trust in Cambridge for a Hospital Engineer. This is a temporary contract for 6 months with a possible extention with an immediate start available. £38,890-£44,503 (pro rate) (Band 7) dependant on experience or length of service with the NHS. The role of the Hospital Engineer is to support the Senior Engineer, in close co-operation with other senior estates engineering staff with the responsibility for successful on-going operation and maintenance of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust premises and assets with a special emphasis on ensuring statutory compliance and a suitable environment for patient care is available at all times. Success in completing this primary objective will be judged against specified performance criteria of quality, timeliness cost/resource and health & safety management agreed with the post-holder as part of the annual performance appraisal/review process. The post has a number of areas of work covering specialist knowledge and management of the site.ELECTRICAL - electrical infrastructure (electrical systems, generator supplies, UPS/IPS) as well as joint responsibility within the team for the BMS (building management systems). Knowledge of other building services and healthcare estate functions (nurse call, Lamson tubes etc.) will be required.MECHANICAL - HVAC, Water, Steam/pressure systems, Medical Gasses, BMS (building management systems), and an element of Energy Management. The Hospital Engineer will have both group and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service but each will ensure their contribution is in accordance with the Estates and Facilities vision and the Trusts overall objectives. Essential qualifications * Educated to or working towards degree level in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering, OR equivalent level of knowledge and experience. * Post graduate certificate in related discipline or evidence of specific job related continuous professional development. Desirable qualifications * Record of continuous development over a broad range of subjects such as legislation updates, technical development and innovation, management policies, sustainability agenda etc. * Technical qualifications related to role within healthcare or equivalent. * AP duties in one or more of LV, Med gas, Vent Essential experience* Engineering experience in an operational maintenance environment with portfolio to demonstrate proven track record and wide range of expertise, including the efficient management of maintenance staff and activities. * Experience of contract and subcontract management with a number of external organisations. * Experience of industry standard BMS systems and building controls Desirable experience* Considerable NHS and/or healthcare estates operation and maintenance. * Project management & process experience for capital projects and minor works, e.g. Lifecycle / Backlog replacement; refurbishment programmes and infrastructure development works. * Evidence of negotiation and conflict resolution within the an operational estates and facilities environment * Experience of working with Schneider Continuum * Experience of successfully managing directly employed staff of varying trades and disciplines. Essential Knowledge* Specialist knowledge of engineering and infrastructure processes and the impact that they have on the healthcare provision. Particularly considering operation, maintenance and resilience of healthcare premises. In depth knowledge of applicable guidance for example HTM, HBN, HTN and other applicable guidance or best practice. Essential Skills* Ability to read schematics * Good written and oral communication skills * Highly developed organisational and planning ability. * Ability to assess complex situations and prioritise in the face of conflicting needs of the service. * Good IT skills including Microsoft Office, * Face to face facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills.
