Embedded Systems Engineer - Cambridge Salary£48K - £52K + Pension Scheme + Life AssuranceThe ClientThe client develops and manufactures thermal imaging and measuring equipment used in world-wide commercial systems, industrial, security and surveillance applications.The company was founded in 1982 and retains its position at the forefront of the infrared imaging industry with a wide range of hardware and software products designed to meet the needs of a growing customer base.The company is privately owned and operates from premises in Waterbeach, Cambridge, UK. It has been recognised by The Queens Awards both for Export and Innovation and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.The RoleAn initial part of the project will concern writing firmware for a small embedded PIC32 microcontroller, so experience with that or a similar platform (e.g. Arm Cortex-M, Arm Cortex-R) would be beneficial. The project will require appreciation of the lowpower, low memory footprint of software on such devices and an appreciation of communications interfaces such as I2C, UART and/or SPI. The use of basic laboratory equipment to diagnose and test systems is expected.Experience with embedded Linux systems is desirable as there will be a degree of interaction with software on these systems. Similarly, experience in C/C++ and with building custom Linux kernels and board support packages (BSPs) for hardware platforms basedon e.g. Xilinx Zynq, Freescale i.MX would be important assets.The candidate should be able to demonstrate having achieved these goals on previous projects.
