They are uniquely positioned to function as a fully capable cancer biotechnology organisation with access and links to both academic and industrial partners. Based in Central London and Cambridgeshire, the aim of CRUK-TDLs multi-disciplinary team of scientists is to undertake drug discovery programmes on exciting novel cancer targets, with the overall goal of developing potential small molecule and biological cancer therapies.We are seeking a student with at least two years of undergraduate experience on a BSc degree in Life Sciences discipline with the following skills:

  • Good team worker, able to follow verbal and written instructions with accuracy and to deadlines.
  • Ability to work safely but also flexibly in a dynamic laboratory environment.
  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to achieve accuracy and thoroughness with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Enthusiastic to learn more about the drug discovery process and interested in a career within science.
    • The successful candidate will join the DMPK team in a laboratory-based role working on drug discovery projects. The laboratory-based position involves conducting bioanalysis, in vitro ADME assays, pharmacokinetic and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis relevant to understanding the metabolism and disposition of potential drug candidates.The placement student will develop a broad understanding of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics and the need for DMPK in drug discovery. They will have the opportunity to learn a range of techniques including bioanalysis (sample extraction, analysis by mass spectrometry, data processing and report generation) and in vitro assays (metabolic stability and plasma protein binding) to generate critical, accurate, drug concentration data in oncology drug discovery. Training will be given in all aspects of laboratory work, including bioanalysis, in vitro assays, LC-MS analysis, and report generation with computer modelling packages. In addition, they will be encouraged to develop confidence in scientific writing (via electronic lab books), presentation skills, gain exposure to biological data and a possibility for insight into the wider drug discovery process.The placement position will be based at our Cambridgeshire site on the Babraham Research Campus.
