We are organised around 7 key capability areas: Business Partnering, Solution Delivery, Architecture, Application Support, Data & Analytics, Change & Operations, operating out of sites across the US, UK, Sweden, India and Mexico.Data & Analytics provides analytics and data insight services and solutions critical to the Data & AI/ML emerging strategy and mission of R&D and AZ. D&A is organised into teams specialising in Information Architecture, Data Engineering and Data Science. You would be part of the Data Science team focusing on AI engineering (natural language processing, machine learning, deep learning and knowledge graph), Informatics, Information Science and Data Analysis).An Overview of the RoleWe have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, technical data leader to join our growing Data & Analytics team as the Platform Lead for the Competitive Intelligence platform. The CI function has been recently revamped in AZ and seeks to provide industry leading competitive intelligence across R&D and Commercial by improving the use of data and technology. The CI platform seeks to use cutting edge technology to integrate key external and internal data sources through a combined build/buy platform to provide a driven advantage for AstraZeneca.The CI Platform lead will be a functional and technical specialist in Competitive Intelligence ideally possessing CI experience, deep knowledge of semantic technologies and information and the ability to engage and have impact with senior partners. They will possess technical development experience and will be able to articulate, position and sell the Platform and product vision, road map and release, as well as plan and be responsible for the impact across multiple Product(s) and teamsThe CI work stream will work closely with the wider Science Data Foundation (SDF) initiative to FAIRify AZ R&D data. SDF wants to enable AZ to leap frog competitors in the way R&D utilises data by accelerating its transformation along a number of strategic areas (chemistry, multi-omics, patient and imaging). SDF will bring to bear industry trends (e.g., cloud-based, mobile-first) and new technologies (e.g., data lakes, catalogues, Data Science Platforms).The CI platform will be part of the AI Engineering capability within R&D and will work alongside a number of leading edge initiatives including our internal Biological Insights Knowledge Graph - our work to build a data pipeline which assembles scientific data in a graphical data structure and uses it to train machine learning models for drug discovery decisions knowledge graph and our NLP platform.What skills and experience do we needThis is a highly critical role within the organisation and therefore we require someone with a specific set of skills and experience, to ensure we deliver on our objectives.

Extensive experience in an Information Engineering / Information Architecture and evidence of successful data solution design & delivery.

Solid understanding and experience of Competitive Intelligence solutions and data

MSc or BSc in Computer Science, Analytics or related quantitative field

Ideally experience / awareness of the application of AI in CI, especially in areas like Natural Language Processing and Ontologies.

History of delivering value to organisations through change – working across time zones, cultures, and IT disciplines

Organisational agility – ability to build consensus through formal and informal channels and relationships; organisationally savvy. Experience of conflict resolution in a global matrix environment

Experience in leading global change programmes

People leadership – in developing and leading successful data teams in sophisticated international organisations. Understanding of people motivation, drivers and development goals

Customer focus -- dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers: Strong bias for action and results

Critical thinking – understanding challenges, opportunities through evolving technology/methodology and formulating into tangible road maps with clear business value

Business Leadership – ability to partner and collaborate across both IT and Science teams to provide optimum benefit to Science. Ability to identify new opportunities and to network to develop business cases/proposals to meet desired outcome.
