Job Description

TheHireWorks are looking for a Buildings and Facilities Manager (BFM) to join our client on a permanent full-time basis. Based in central Cambridge the postholder will be responsible for the day to day running of the siteand the maintenance to which needs to be completed. Ensuring the buildings are fit for purpose the successful candidate will be looking after all hard and soft services within, including the maintenance and installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbingservices, as well as the maintenance and modification of the building fabric.The BFM will be supervising the contracts for other departments which includes the Cleaning and also the Security services and will be monitoring the performance and also will be carrying out regular reviews with area managers. The BFM will also be in chargeof the Fire Safety of the buildings.The successful candidate will have a team of four under his/her lead and will responsible themselves to the Administrator of our Client. To be successful in this role the BFM will have a high degree of initiative as well as outstanding communication skills.Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake the general Facilities management, inspection of the buildings and to make sure all planned, and preventative/reactive maintenance is arranged and given to the respective roles depending on the task.
  • Understand all aspects of the current setups within the buildings including the mechanical and electrical systems and capably deal with new, unusual situations as they arise and adjust workings depending on what needs to be done.
  • Organise and be responsible for a water hygiene routine and make sure all logbooks and records are updates accordingly.
  • Working alongside the senior technical officer and the administrator the post holder will be responsible to give adequate notice of when work needs to be done in certain areas.
  • Be at the front of all project which range from whole building refurbishments down to redecorations of single rooms. Be able to commission and run small project up to organising contractors for specific work tasks.
  • Act as a site representative for any major works which are run by Estate Management.
  • Manage 4 facilities technicians and ensure they have the correct training and ensure feedback and recommendations are acted on wherever is practical.
Person SpecificationThe postholder will be someone with experience in an engineering management role preferably in a scientific/laboratory background. In addition, the candidate will be aware of maintenance in a mechanical setting with HVAC responsibilities. It would be ofgreat benefit to know about electrical systems. The appointed will have knowledge of building services and knowledge of health and safety in the workplace and who are able to deliver projects on time and effectively and within constraints.What you must have:
  • BSc or HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification in the same industries.
  • A facilities management qualification or experience in facilities management that can negate a qualification.
  • Positive, service-orientated attitude
  • Computer literate and capable of using Microsoft Office
  • Extensive communication skills with being able produce reports and talk to staff and contractors efficiently.
  • Problem solving abilities
Benefits package:
  • Competitive Salary of up to £51,000 D.O.E
  • Full-time hours of 37 hours a week Monday - Friday
  • Employer contributed pension of 5%
  • Annual Leave entitlement of 33 days plus 8 bank holiday days totalling 41 days holiday
  • Flexible working (discussed with line manager the postholder will be able to work from home when certain factors are considered)
