Job Description

Permanent, Full-TimeCambridge area, UKREED Scientific are looking for a a Biochemist / Assay Development Scientist to join the drug development team of a world class biotech company based in the Cambridge area. They have developed a number of drug discovery programmes spanningmultiple therapeutic areas including oncology, immuno-oncology and ageing.About the Job

  • Develop and execute assays, including compound screening using fluorescent biochemical assays
  • Analyse data and interpret results correctly
  • Complete accurate and timely lab write-ups to ensure all data is precisely recorded
  • Integrate different projects to support the broader Assay team
  • Present results to management and the wider drug discovery team
Requirements and ResponsibilitiesThe role is for a lab-based assay scientist, and various levels of experience will be considered from Associate to Senior scientist. This will be someone that will run projects involving typically fluorescent-based plate assays.The successful candidate will be responsible for developing biochem assays, troubleshooting them and getting them to a compound-ready stage, profile compounds and work together with the chemistry team to develop high potency compounds.The team is currently composed of four biochemists of various experience levels, all with projects that involve running biochem assays, as well as biophysical assays and protein production. Most people have their own project but are a very supportive team,with most scientists giving a hand in different projects as needed.Youll need to be able to communicate very well and keep the team and management up to date routinely.About you
  • MSc plus at least one year practical lab experience (or BSc and equivalent experience)Demonstration of technical aptitude in assay development and troubleshootingPractical experience with data handling, analysis, and recording of experimentsExcellent team player, enthusiastic and actively seeking to learn and developAttention to detail, structured thinking, good communication and time management skills
  • Desired additional qualifications (but not required):
  • Assay development and optimization experience within industrial drug discovery environmentExperience of protein expression (E.coli or mammalian) and purification using commonly used chromatography systems
