Job Description

Mechanical Design EngineerBurton Upon TrentGood base salary, bonus, good pension & excellent other benefitsINTRODUCTIONAs a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions, predominantly to the rail industry (locos, not infrastructure), as well as tunneling and construction, my client has a history and pedigree that spans almost a century.They have developed some novel equipment that provides additional capabilities and functionality to the locos.Due to the award of some prestigious contracts and additional projects they are now looking to bring in aa suitably skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an existing team.THE ROLEAs a Mechanical Design Engineer you will:

  • Be responsible for designing rail products in 3D and creating 2D detailed production drawings
  • Carrying out FEA and hand calculations
  • Creating designs for hydraulic and pneumatic systems, as well as large fabrications
  • Creation of BOMS and working with an established ERP system ((M/S NAV)
  • Be responsible for working on multiple projects to ensure the quality and timeliness of the designs
  • Liaise with other areas of the business (electrical design, manufacturing, quality, sales etc.) to ensure projects are in line with these departments
  • Be working to ISO standards and certification to ensure that the company’s products comply with agreed standards
  • Provide clearly defined targets / milestones for each project (timescales, budget etc.) and ensure that these are met or exceeded
  • Provide technical support to the sales team and the customer, both on and off site, in order to solve engineering product related issues
  • Be commercially aware and use this awareness in your mechanical designs
    • THE PERSONIn order to be considered for this Mechanical Design Engineer role it is expected that you will have:
  • Relevant “real world” experience in a similar Mechanical Design position
  • A degree in an Engineering discipline or at least an HNC/HND and proven experience in a mechanical design position
  • (Ideally) experience within the heavier end of engineering, such as rail or off-road plant, or industries where equipment is required to work in hostile environments (quarries, mines etc.)
  • Experience of working with small and medium sized companies – which provides great variety!
  • An ability to design in 2D and 3D with recognised mechanical design CAD packages (ideally AutoDesk Inventor but other packages may be considered - SolidWorks / Solid Edge)
  • The ability to work closely with the electrical team and client contacts, as well as other engineers from within manufacturing or installation
  • The ability to prioritise and manage your workload to ensure that milestones are met on time and to budget
  • Other I.T skills based around the usual Microsoft Office suite (Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Internet / Email etc.)
