Job Description

Electrical Test EngineerBurton Upon TrentGood base salary+ good overtime rates, good pension & excellent other benefitsINTRODUCTIONAs a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions, predominantly to the rail industry (locos, not infrastructure), as well as tunnelling and construction, my client has a history and pedigree that spansalmost a century.They have developed some novel equipment that provides additional capabilities and functionality to the locos.Due to the award of some prestigious contracts and additional projects they are now looking to bring in an Electrical Test Engineer to join their already impressive team.THE ROLEAs an Electrical Test Engineer you will:

  • Be responsible for testing and fault finding of panel assemblies and onboard locomotive testing, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), using a combination of test boxes, routine inspection and traditional fault diagnostics.
  • Work from electrical schematics to ensure the safety and functionality of systems and associated equipment (control panels, PLCs and electrical boards etc.)
  • Work with both HV & LV systems
  • Working closely with the PLC team, the Production Manager and other shop floor staff
  • Carrying out test procedures, interrogating PLCs and establishing root cause and solutions for any issues identified
  • Occasionally carry out panel wiring to equipment that will subsequently be fitted to the Loco
  • Advise the rest of the team (mechanical, Project teams etc.) on any electrical issues or suggestions
  • Occasionally go to customer sites to provide on-site fitting and advice to their own teams
THE PERSONIn order to be considered for this Electrical Test Engineer role it is expected that you will have:
  • Relevant industry experience and the ability to work alone or as part of a small but enthusiastic team
  • Recognised industry qualifications relating to your craft
  • An ability to work from electrical schematics
  • Solid experience of working with panels, PLCs and an ability to interrogate and test these systems
  • Experience of discussing electrical matters with colleagues and offering solid advice on best practice
  • An ability to work with customers engineers, both verbal / written and face to face on site
  • A good understanding of site and workshop Health and Safety
  • Exposure to electrical fitting or testing on Locomotives, similar rail orientated equipment or off-highway vehicles will be a distinct advantage
