Job Description

Electrical Fitter (Rail) With TestingBurton Upon TrentGood base salary+ good overtime rates, good pension & excellent other benefitsThis is a re-posting of a similar advert, so previous applicants need not apply.Alsoplease be aware that this role requires relevant TEST and Electrical Fitting experience on relevant plant.INTRODUCTIONAs a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions, predominantly to the rail industry (locos, not infrastructure), as well as tunnelling and construction, my client has a history and pedigree that spans almost a century.They have developed some novel equipment that provides additional capabilities and functionality to the locos.Due to the award of some prestigious contracts and additional projects they are now looking to bring in an Electrical Fitter with Testing capabilities to join their already impressive team.THE ROLEAs an Electrical Fitter with Testing capabilities you will:

  • Be responsible for wiring and carrying out electrical fitting on a range of rail locos and associated equipment
  • Work from electrical schematics to ensure the accurate electrical fitting of systems (control panels, PLCs and electrical boards etc.) to locomotive systems and associated equipment
  • Fit both HV & LV systems
  • Working closely with the PLC team and uploading programs to the PLC systems
  • Carrying out test procedures, interrogating PLCs and establishing root cause and solution for any issues identified
  • Carry out panel wiring to equipment that will subsequently be fitted to the locos and then fitting this equipment onto the main loco system
  • Carry out some mechanical tasks, usually to assist with the electrical fitting side; for example you may be feeding wires through a loco and will need to take off and re-attach internal panels
  • Advise the rest of the team (mechanical, Project teams etc.) on any electrical issues or suggestions
  • Occasionally go to customer sites to provide on-site fitting and advice to their own teams
    • THE PERSONIn order to be considered for this Electrical Fitter role it is expected that you will have:
  • Relevant industry experience and the ability to work alone or as part of a small but enthusiastic team
  • Recognised industry qualifications relating to your craft - Ideally to HNC level or equivalent
  • An ability to work from electrical schematics
  • Solid experience of working with PLCs and an ability to interrogate, minor programming and testing of these systems
  • Experience of discussing electrical matters with colleagues and offering solid advice on best practice
  • An ability to work with customer’s engineers, both verbal / written and face to face on site
  • Some mechanical skills (very basic) and the ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
  • A good understanding of site and workshop Health and Safety
  • Exposure to electrical fitting on Locomotives, similar rail orientated equipment or off-highway vehicles will be a distinct advantage
