Job Description

Job Title: GrinderLocation: Barton Under NeedwoodDuration: 6 monthsSalary: £16-£18 per hour DOEHours:7am to 5pm Mon to Thurs and 7-1 Fridays Our Engineering client based in Barton Under Needwood are recruiting for an experienced Cylindrical Grinder for a 6 month contractKey Aim:The aim is to perform precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of metal objects.Key Duties & Tasks:

  • Dress grinding wheels, according to specifications.
  • Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary: stop machines when problems occur.
  • To inspect, touch and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.
  • To set up and operate grinding or polishing machines to grind metal work pieces such as dies, parts, and tools.
  • To remove finished work pieces from machines and place them in boxes or on racks; set aside pieces that are deemed defective.
  • To file or finish surfaces of work pieces, using prescribed hand tools.
  • To select and mount grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasive and grinding procedures.
  • To perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
  • To remove and replace worn or broken machine parts, using hand tools.
  • To compute numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges and adjust tools to produce specified cuts.
  • To be able to conduct tests and inspect parts in order to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Mentor trainees / apprentices if applicable.
  • Work to and support all relevant 5S activities.
  • Follow instructions provided by line managers.
  • Ensure that waste is disposed of in the correct manner.
  • Follow the relevant working instructions / process plans / drawings etc.
  • Report any near misses.
  • Maintain good level of attendance at work.Working Relationships:

  • Adhere at all times to the companys Health, Safety & Environmental instructions and requirements.

  • Take on any other reasonable responsibilities or tasks that are within the employees skills and abilities.The successful candidate will have an experience preferably in a manufacturing/automotive environment.
