Job Description

Job title: ChefLocation: BroadstairsPay rate: £14Contract: Temporary. Please note, an enhanced DBS check will be carried out, due to the working environment.Could this be your next career move Here is what your new role will involve…

  • Prepare and cook fresh food from scratch following recipes provided for school lunch and residential homes evening meal.
  • Ensure that all special diets are catered for using all precautionary measures to avoid contact with other foods.
  • Prepare all foods in accordance with "Safer food better business Manuel" (HACCP).
  • Be actively involved and oversee the complete cleaning of the kitchen and storage areas following the daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure adequate food supplies are maintained by regular monitoring and ordering.
  • Ensure that all stock is stored and labelled correctly and in date.
  • Assist with the planning of menus for both school lunches and the homes.
  • Monitor all food waste and liaise with Catering & housekeeping manger about how to reduce.
  • Organise and assign all daily duties and work schedules to kitchen/pantry assistants.
  • Assist with the implementation of Statutory & School hygiene, health & safety procedures. To ensure the following practices are adhered to, i.e. recording of fridge & freezer temperatures; food temperatures etc.
  • Ensure that all items of equipment are maintained to a safe and hygienic standard, reporting any defects to the Catering and Housekeeping manager.
  • To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Childrens Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children as this applies to the role within the organisation. To also be fullyaware of the principles of safeguarding as they apply to vulnerable adults in relation to the role.
  • To ensure that the line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which the worker may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.
  • To be aware of the various school policies and to act in accordance with them.
Can you demonstrate the following qualities…
  • A catering qualification is essential.
  • Ability to provide a variety of nutritional and healthy meals.
  • Ability to cater for pupils special diets or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work under own initiative within a strict time limit.
  • Ability to maintain adequate stock control procedures.
  • An ability to create weekly menus.
  • Effective friendly communication with customers, including supporting the use of communication aides as appropriate for the children.
  • Possession of a current Food Handling & Hygiene certificate or a willingness to acquire one
