Your new roleAs we embark on the next stage of our exciting journey in the delivery of the transformational A303 Stonehenge project, we are seeking a Tunnel Manager to join our South West Operations team.This is a new role to the region where the successful candidate will be the Highways England appointed person responsible for tunnel safety and operations across the region. In this client role you will inform the design, embed and maintain the strategic direction of operational processes and asset maintenance for tunnels, ensuring opportunities for continuous improvement are captured, and a safe and consistent approach is applied for existing and future tunnels. You will be joining at a time where the A303 project is moving at pace so the role will require significant engagement with Major Project teams.You will also work closely with Regional Control Room colleagues supervising tunnel related duties on the network, have direct line management responsibility of the Tunnel Maintenance Manager and collaboratively engage with HE’s other Tunnel Managers to deliver consistency for our customers.What you’ll be leading on• Produce, develop, embed, maintain and communicate HE’s Tunnels management strategy, policies and safety documentation; ensuring that this covers continuous improvement and governance arrangements by leading or facilitating key meetings • Lead and direct management of HE’s Tunnels operations ensuring a safe and consistent approach is applied for existing and future tunnels; also contributing to relevant projects and in stakeholder engagement to add benefit particularly in relation to both statutory and regulatory obligations • Maintain the safe condition, functionality, performance and reliability, security, resilience and obsolescence of the tunnel and its associated and connected reliable assets, systems and records • Ensure HE understands clearly its statutory obligations and manages duties and risks in a transparent and balanced way enabling an adequate statutory defence of decisions • Responsibility for all aspects of stock management; fault management, corrective management actions and programming and all reporting for faults, condition, security, resilience and obsolescence analysis and maintenance activities measured against the minimum operating requirements for the Tunnel Manager • Co-ordination, management and "on-street" delivery of activities for tunnels and their immediate approaches, ensuring the effective delivery of the works and safety of customers.To be successful• A relevant Engineering degree or equivalent experience, a Chartered Civil Engineer qualification is highly desirable• Demonstrable experience of working in a complex service delivery and regulated environment • Demonstrable experience with road tunnel regulations, operations and management • Strong understanding of a 24/7 control room and operational environment • Advanced knowledge of designs, equipment, operating procedures and technology systems deployed in tunnels • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills • People leadership and team management.A bit about usMaking sure our customers have safe and reliable journeys is at the heart of everything we do in Operations.
