Job Description

Robertson Recruitment has been appointed to recruit an outstanding Transport Operator on a fixed term 12 month contract. Working on a permanent 4 on 4 off contract based on days and nights in a busy transport office, you will be responsible for coordinating up to 40 drivers and 30 tractor units, ensuring that delivery plans are met and exceeded.In return youll receive a competitive salary of £28,000 per annum, overtime, amazing pension scheme, childcare vouchers and holiday allowance. Our client is a major temperature controlled distributor, servicing a network of blue chip supermarket clients efficiently. Working for a leading player in food distribution, youll be encouraged to take ownership of the day to day transport operation and drive forward improvements, offering savings to the customer.Who is our client They deliver over 500 million pounds worth of temperature controlled products and work closely with customers businesses and requirements to provide industry leading service levels, high specification equipment. They do this through skilled professional staff, who enjoy great training, internal promotion and an inclusive culture.Transport Operator duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervising and coordinating up to 40 drivers and 30 tractor units according to the daily plan, whilst ensuring the runs are compliant with WTD
  • Tracking and modifying the TMS, Microlise and Trutac, allocating drivers according to loads
  • Working alongside the Duty Manager to ensure that the departments Transport activities keep within budget
  • Liaising with the Shift Manager and Fleet Supervisor where applicable to ensure all procedures, processes are managed and followed correctly
  • Proactively managing the plan, making adjustments where necessary along with ensuring driver adherence
  • Constantly analyzing ways in which the operation can be improved, providing maximum productivity and ultimately providing savings to the customer
  • Overseeing transport resources to ensure all routes are covered
  • Responding to customers and stakeholders quickly and effectively
  • Reviewing the daily operational plan and staying in daily contact with the senior management team
    • Transport Operator skills and experience:
  • Experience in working for a similar transport operation - fast paced food distribution
  • Familiarity with TMS, ideally Microlise
  • Excellent coaching and leadership skills
  • Great communication skills
  • Highly motivated and pro-active
  • Exceptional team player
  • Excellent knowledge of Transport Legislation
  • Knowledge of O-license requirements
  • Exposure to FMCG operations, ideally encompassing food and warehousing
