Job Description

Technical Documentation ManagerBristol Business Park, Stoke Gifford£36,525 - £45,045 dependent on experienceSF32504About the roleHere at Babcock, we have been awarded the £1.5bn Type 31 design and build contract. The Type 31 Project will deliver 5 general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy, designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid/disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028.We are recruiting a Technical Documentation Manager to join our Type 31 Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Team at Bristol Business Park and support the successful delivery of the programme. As the Technical Documents Manager, you will own the Technical Documents Management Plan and have responsibility for day to day control, management and co-ordination of all Technical Documentation (TD) delivered as a support artefact for the programme. A core component of the Ease of Maintenance Assessment (EMA), an effective suite of TD is essential to support the RN and enable the Maintainer to operate at the heart of the support solution.You will be accountable to the ILS Platform Lead for the control, management and co-ordination of all Technical Documentation. You will be responsible for the maintenance, update and delivery of the Technical Documents Management Plan iaw the Prime Contract. You will ensure all Technical Documentation is collected, collated and managed to enable effective composition of the following:

  • System and Equipment IETMs (S1000D DMs and OEM PDFs)
  • Whole Ship Documents
  • IPCs
  • Maintenance Instructions
  • Datum Pack and Registers In addition, you will establish and maintain effective relationships and engagement with the Datum Pack and Configuration members of the team, to ensure alignment and correlation of effort to deliver the end product. Also, as required by the ILS Platform Lead, execute TD responsibilities and contribute to the production and development of broader supportability deliverables as defined in the T31 Design and Build contract. This will include initially supporting ILS Sub-Contract negotiation activities and contribute to Supportability and Design Reviews.This will be a fantastic opportunity to join a team of like-minded professionals and support on our high profile project. As well as working for the UKs leading naval support business, we will also provide you with all the training, support and benefits that you would expect from a global company.What do I need to do the roleIdeally, you will be Degree qualified in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrics/electronics, systems or information systems) but HND/HNC with extensive experience in the relevant field will be considered. Ideally, you will be a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status. Also, you will be familiar with warship systems, equipment and Datum Packs.You will have experience of the ILS function and Technical Documentation in a defence environment, ideally naval. You will have experience with Integrated Electronic Technical Documentation/Manuals and an understanding of S1000D Data Modules. Also, a working understanding of appropriate ILS Defence Standards including 00-600, JSP 543and ASD-Series of ILS specifications. You will have the ability to work in a complex, multi-discipline team and will have strong verbal communication skills.What else do I need to knowYou will work 36 hours per week Monday to Friday with flexible working and you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.
