Job Description

At Hargreaves Lansdown, our Linux and Solaris based systems are key to both internal and client facing systems. Due to increasing demands, we are looking to recruit a Senior Unix Support Analyst to deal with a wide and varied selection of requests supportingthe wider business. The role is suited to an individual who is keen to learn and develop and, enjoys owning a problem and seeing it through to resolution. An average day within the Unix Support Team is both fast paced and diverse where you will be workingclosely with a variety of internal teams and third party suppliers to investigate, diagnose and resolve a wide range of requests, and will offer the successful candidate opportunity to expand their exiting knowledge of multitude of technologies based primarily(but not exclusively) on the Linux platform ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work through the Unix ticket queue, ensuring tickets are dealt with in a consistent and professional manner, and ensure that service requests and incidents across the UNIX estate are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  • Actively participate in daily reviews of the incident queue with the other members of the Unix Support Team, escalating issues though the Unix Support Escalations channel where required.
  • Work with other teams in the department to Troubleshoot complex problems, and help identify trends, and root causes of faults.
  • Help with the technical review and implementation of changes Adhering to tight operations, security, and procedural models, in line with ITIL best practice
  • Help improve our process documentation for common tickets and identify common themes which could be resolved through process automation.
  • To deputise for the Unix Support team Leader in their absence
  • Review documentation for projects prior to go live
  • To act as a role model, providing guidance and work leadership to less-experienced team members.
  • Complete Operational Activities and Unix Control testing in line with scheduled activities
  • Actively engage in a culture of continuous improvement, implementing service efficiencies where possible.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing role
  • Understanding of SLAs/OLAs
  • A minimum of two years Linux Administration experience (Centos or Redhat);
  • Good understanding of virtualisation technologies e.g. VMware;
  • System monitoring (e.g. Opsview / Nagios);
  • Hand-on experience of puppet configuration management
  • Shell scripting skills (bash or sh);
  • Ability to analyse and problem solve and demonstrate technical expertise to support complex Unix Systems, under minimal supervision.
  • Proactive, resourceful and able to use initiative
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and keep abreast of technological developments
