We are looking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a schools project within Bristol. The ideal candidate will come from the design and build sector and have some experience gained within education.Job Purpose:Responsible for all financial aspects of the project working closely with the Project Team to control all commercial & contractual matters. Deliver desired margin return utilising high standards of commercial acumen. Identify, record and track risks and opportunities and ensure the project team have clear direction on how to avoid risks and realise opportunities.To ensure compliance and that projects are operated in conjunction with internal governance being adhered to. Ensure that reporting is undertaken in a timely manner and that deadlines are met for all commercial requirements from pre-construction through to final accounting.It is expected that the SQS will manage projects ranging in value of between £5m - £25m. Projects will be primarily based in the Public Sector and experience of leading schemes through two-stage procurement and pre-construction phases as well as delivery in construction is required. The SQS will be expected to demonstrate collaborative and partnering behaviours aligned to the Public Sectors through which we procure and operate to provide exemplary customer service.Given the nature of two-stage tendering a significant amount of time will be spent in pre-construction. The SQS will be responsible for controlling costs and design throughout pre-construction to ensure scheme viability and the necessary level of margin can be achieved.Early identification and notification of risks is necessary to enable the business to plan effectively.The Senior QS will be required to work closely with the project lead and provide up to date information of how decisions being made on site will impact the commercial position of the project and provide robust but controlled challenges to them.The role will require the Senior QS to manage commercial staff and ensure that they receive the level of training and time required to develop them and aid in staff achieving their own and ISGs objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesPre-ConstructionAttend tender presentations for new projects, contribute, lead commercially and present figures for adjudicationsPrepare, monitor and oversee subcontract procurement, compile trade contract bid documents and carry out tender analysis and issue purchase ordersProduce package scope documents in conjunction with design managers, project managers, construction managers and BSMs if applicableAdvise on product selection, specifications and assist with value engineering opportunitiesManage and control the design throughout the 2nd stage of two-stage tendering, ensuring that the cost plan/budget is maintained and controlled and regularly updatedEnsure the supply chain managers are informed of proposed suppliers and provided with the opportunity to liaise and influence costings on schemes based on supplier agreements.Provide accurate turnover forecasts for inclusion within business unit Forward Order Book document on a monthly basisLook for opportunities to batch up works where possible and gain economies of scale benefitsEnsure that off-site, modern methods of construction options are investigated and pursued wherever possible for all projects as early in the process as possible to maximise any available benefitsConstruction Period
