Job Purpose The dedicated Group division, based in Bristol, is approximately 260 people strong, handling every aspect of Employee Benefit Protection (Group Risk) business from quotations and customer service support, to underwriting and claims. We are looking for a qualified actuary to join our Group Insurance Actuarial team, currently six in number. The role is mainly responsible for leading the calculation of statutory reserves and capital on multiple bases. The role works closely with other areasof the valuation and financial reporting departments, as well as the Pricing and Risk functions. This role will require both strong technical skills as well as the ability to communicate results to senior management. Key Accountabilities • Calculation of technical reserves • Capital assessment on UK and Canadian bases, including Solvency 2 and LICAT. • Risk assessment and measurement for key insurance risks. • Key contribution to Canadian and UK profit and loss forecasting and assessment for the entire UK Protection operation. • Wide-ranging technical and actuarial support to the Protection lines of business. • Contributing to long- and short-term business planning. • Provide input and assistance to stress and scenario testing. • Management of actuarial students and support staff. Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills • Qualified actuary with relevant post-qualification experience. • Experience of insurance markets and financial modelling software. • Understanding of the need for a strong control framework. • Ability to plan work and lead actuarial projects. • Good verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate technical content to a wide range of stakeholders. • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver to tight timescales. • Previous managerial experience is preferred. • Knowledge of Group Risk markets would be beneficial but is not essential.
