Job Description

At Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), our purpose is to make sure our military sailors, soldiers and aviators have the lifesaving, battle-winning capabilities they need to overcome adversity. Were delivering vital work - join us as a Safety Engineer and be part of it.You will be joining our new and expanding Land Certification Authority Team (LCAT), surrounded by highly experienced safety and systems professionals working towards a single certification goal. We are offering the opportunity to expand your safety knowledgeacross a whole series of capabilities. Training and development opportunities are readily available, and you will be completing our DE&S Suite of System Safety course.As a Safety Engineer, you will be providing advice, oversight and certification against standards and assurance to Land Domain primary platform procurements to ensure that equipment provided to the Front-Line Command areas has been rigorously assessed inline with new and emerging Land Safety Regulatory requirements.You can choose to be based out of one of our following locations:

  • MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol
  • MOD Manchester
  • RAF Wattisham, Ipswich
  • Leonardo Helicopters, Yeovil
  • MOD Kentigern House, Glasgow
Due to the nature of security requirements, these roles are open to sole UK nationals only. There is the possibility of occasional domestic travel to other UK sites, as well as international travel.Responsibilities
  • Identify and analyse hazards and contribute to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed
  • Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, MOD regulations, standards and DE&S Policy
  • Maintain safety certification assurance plans and monitors compliance against assurance evidence
  • Develop and plan certification acceptance criteria and recommends certification approvals
  • Maintain the standards to which compliance would be assessed against by sponsoring the certification standard on behalf of MOD
Person specificationTo be successful with your application, youll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
  • You will hold a relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC), or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineering professional affiliation or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
  • Experience of safety management systems and the interpretation of bodies of evidence (e.g., safety case evidence and risk mitigation)
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
