Job Description

Job Title: Principal Architect/Design Office LeadLocation: Hybrid/GloucestershireDuration: 31st March 2024 (extension likely)Stance: Outside IR35Clearance: SC to start (must be willing to undergo DV)Daily Rate: £850 - £950 Per DayRole Description:Principal Architect/Office Design Lead with a strong technical and leadership background, to lead a complex design process for a multi-billion pound IT solution for a high profile Defence client.Essential skills & experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrable experience in the following areas;
  1. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including architectural modelling (business through to technical) and the ability to present complex technical material to non-technical stakeholders and to deliver rigorous accurate reports to programmeand enterprise leadership.
  2. Experience of working with Kanban and Scrum in an Agile or Scaled Agile (e.g. SAFe) DevOps environment.
  • Strong technical and engineering level experience of;
  1. Software Defined datacentre architectures, specifically using VMWare technologies such as NSX v4, vSAN, Horizon.
  2. Windows and Linux based enterprise environments for core services (PKI, IdAM, DNS, NTP, Mailflow, Security management and performance monitoring) and application hosting services
  3. Software design, automation design and DevSecOps delivery models
  4. Physical infrastructure design, specifically in the network edge environment with low Size, Weight and Power constraints
  5. Network engineering, service resilience, Quality of service and traffic engineering
  6. Service Operations at the network edge, incorporating DDIL, high latency and low bandwidth contexts
  • Experience of working within the MoD, Defence Digital and its wider delivery partnerships with a strong stakeholder network across these organisations, including the ability to adapt and grow a professional network as time in role develops.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, the ability to listen to the thoughts and ideas of others and to proactively solve problems and propose well-considered new ideas, influencing and advising stakeholders on technology solutions.
  • Competency in MoD Information Systems, MS Office Suite and experience of the Atlassian toolset (JIRA and Confluence) to record and document work.
  • Competency in MS Office Suite.
  • Hold a current SC clearance and be prepared to undergo DV clearance.
Desirable skills, qualifications, and experienceIn order to deliver this service, it is desirable that individuals have:
  • A relevant academic achievement at Masters level (and/or equivalent industry) in IT, Systems Design, Engineering, Programme Management, Risk Management or other transferrable skill set.
  • Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, Automated Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, DevSecOps and Service Operations frameworks such as ITIL v3 and v4.
  • Excellent mentoring, management, motivation and organisational skills.
  • Professional registration at Chartered level with the IET, BCS, CMI or other relevant Body.
