This has created an exciting opportunity for a Press Officer - Science and Innovation to join our Strategic Science & Policy Engagement team, who are part of the company?s broader Science and Innovation function.As the Press Officer you will build and deploy engaging external messaging based on our Global Scientific narrative to ensure we maximise all media-related opportunities around the global NGP conversation.Key Accountabilities:Strategic

  • Alongside the Strategic Scientific Communications Senior Manager, support international media initiatives, including country launches and regulatory milestones.
  • Assist with the development and cascading of science & regulatory messaging to relevant stakeholders and audiences, providing quality control for all science communications materials, as well as overseeing key scientific research announcements and initiatives.
  • Co-develop and execute an aligned editorial and content strategy for Group Science and Innovation.
  • Operational
  • Act as Imperial Brands Science?s primary of contact media enquiries, responding in a through, aligned manner.
  • Build and maintain a first-class network of reliable contacts across the global media and tobacco harm reduction space
  • Draft and proactively circulate press releases externally, aligned with relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as spokesperson where appropriate or organise relevant other IMB spokespersons - to potentially include speechwriting.
  • Arrange and coordinate press conferences as required.
  • Work closely with members of the Strategic Science and Policy Engagement team (e.g. Digital Exec) and Group Internal Comms to ensure optimum dissemination of our messaging.
  • Own scientific media crisis comms and act as the first point of contact in terms of owning and co-ordinating any scientific rebuttals.
  • Monitor media coverage, collect cuttings and prepare regular evaluations reports.
  • Support the Scientific Campaign and Events, Scientific Digital Channels and Scientific Market Materials Executives - plus the wider Strategic Science & Policy Engagement team - on any relevant parallel projects.
  • Skills and Experience:You will ideally have the following essential qualification, skills and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role in a multinational corporation, ideally within a regulated product category.
  • An extensive range of relevant media contacts, and the ability to maintain/grow this network.
  • A passion for science, technology and communications.
  • First class written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex scientific material to non-scientific audiences.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently, both internally and external to the business.
  • Media strategist, full of creative ideas for generating positive coverage across a broad range of channels.
  • Media trained, with the ability to coach senior stakeholders in interview techniques.
  • Excellent multi-tasker who works well under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Resilient and professional, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Credibility at a senior management level
  • An understanding of the importance of sensitivity in a highly regulated commercial market.
  • An understanding of the global NGP political and regulatory landscapes.
