Job Description

Piping Stress Analysis EngineerLocation: Bristol, AvonSalary: Attractive packagesHours: 40 hours per weekContract: Permanent, Full TimeSonovision, an ORTEC Group company, are a multi award-winning company who provide product design, document engineering and marketing services to global OEMs across a wide variety of sectors including Defence, Aerospace, Energy and general Industry.A key strategy for Sonovision is the expansion of our core engineering portfolio with our existing client base, in particular, the Energy sector according with ORTEC strategy.The Role:As part of the expansion of our Engineering and Projects activities, we are recruiting a Pipe Stress Analysis Engineer to support us in our growth in the Nuclear Energy sector. Sonovision will provide a Training program based on ORTEC experiences in French Nuclear engineering.Key Tasks and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Executive Team, fulfil the role identified belowCarry out the following activities:

  • From the extractions of the 3D model on PDMS (AVEVA), analyse the behaviour of the networks of piping under different conditions (normal, disturbed, exceptional and accidental)
  • Check the regulatory criteria associated with these situations according with RCC-M code
  • Check the flexibility and the forces transmitted to the various elements of the network, in particular to components and supports
  • Complete the associated final calculation notes
  • Transmit the efforts on supports to the support calculation team
  • Transmit datasheet to equipment and contract teams
  • The right candidate will have the following skills and background:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience within an engineering environment, with Energy industry (Oil & Gas or Nuclear) experience.
  • Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s degree (as minimum) or equivalent qualification / experience
  • Experience working on mechanical analysis (Finite Element Method, Beam Theory, Steel Structure Calculation)
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team with engineers and designers, in the production of design deliverables for projects within the Oil & Gas and energy sectors.
  • Piping and process equipment design and layout, primarily for the oil and gas sector, but experience in other sectors useful
  • Checking the quality of subcontractor design work to ensure compliance with agreed client design specifications.
  • Knowledge of development programming is a plus
  • Understanding of process requirements, ability to interpret process P&ID’s
  • Ability to interpret piping isometrics
  • Excellent inter-personal and relationship skills

  • Knowledge of codes: RCC-M, ASME, EN-13480 is a plus
  • Knowledge of French language is a plus
