Job Description

My client, a very successful and leading Engineering and Software company within the Chemical/Process sector and based in Bristol has retained me exclusively to help them recruit an experienced Operations Manager for a permanent career opportunity.The role:

  • Oversees all day-to-day operations, technical and non-technical (such as HR)
  • Responsible for the delivery side of projects (quality, time and cost) ensuring that Project and CTR Managers keep to their commitments.
  • Delegates technical review to Process and Technical Directors.
  • Defaults to the role of Project Manager until delegated for all new projects.
  • Sets up new projects and CTRs for Won Work (baseline, forecast, time sheeting tasks).
  • Assigns Project Manager and CTR Managers and Project Resources. Assigns CTR Managers on advice from Process and Technical Directors.
  • Contributes to new work proposals through evaluating project budget and availability of resources and feasibility of delivery taking into account all company activities.
  • Look ahead and planning of work across the company. Handling new enquiry scheduling, maximising utilisation of staff, and ensuring maximum productivity. Manages all resource planning and optimising utilisation of resource pool. Interfaces with HR Managerfor new resource requirements (including the talent pool).
  • Contingency planning for emergency events (such as pandemics)
  • Technical oversight, recruitment, and support for all Project and CTR Managers.
  • Leads Operation Review Meetings and Project Action Review Meetings
  • Responsible for developing and updating project delivery models and ensuring that CTR Managers follow them
  • Develop new delivery and tracking management tools in the company
  • Final approval for all timesheets, expenses, and time off allowances for all staff and contractors
  • Attend all project and CTR reviews, including the preparation of input information in advance
  • Ensuring the document control is followed in the company.
  • Full responsibility for management of Replicon (time sheeting), Flex Manage (Quality) and Resource Planning Spreadsheet.
  • Overseeing new starter inductions into company systems and ensuring that new starters have a work plan.
  • Maintaining project estimating metrics
  • Managing internalised contractors, including purchase orders and payment of their invoices
  • Ensuring that client invoices are raised in a timely way
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Significant experience (10 year+) in consultancy-based projects.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar.
  • Experienced in quality-based engineering work flows
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly and without conflict.
  • Good organisation skills and system-based approach to work
  • Good understanding of project delivery models and how to deliver against deadlines and fixed cost.
