Job Description

Operations Manager, Grounds Maintenance, up to £50,000 (dependant on experience) + excellent career prospects + 25 days’ holiday + 3 days Christmas shut-down + bank holidays + pension + use of company vehicle + free parking etc.The Role: I am recruiting an Operations Manager to take operational and commercial responsibility for the continued growth and success of CPS Grounds Ltd. Reporting into the MD the successful Operations Manager will be responsible for managing and developing a team of 30 Groundworkers, overseeing health and safety and ensuring the highest level of customer experience is received, and that all contracts are delivered on time and to specification, meeting quality and budgetary requirements. The Operations Manager will also take responsibility for business development, utilising the company’s excellent reputation and broad client base to network for new business opportunities.As a pivotal member of the management team the Operations Manager will drive strategy, manage risks and deliver on operational and commercial goals, with the opportunity to progress to Director level, potentially taking over the management of the business.The Company: CPS Grounds Ltd is a well-established and expanding Grounds Maintenance company, who also fulfil a range of landscaping and outdoor projects, working primarily within the education and sports field sector. Based in Warmley, East Bristol (BS30) they work with over 200 clients in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset areas.The Person: The Operations Manager we be a highly driven and inspirational line manager with broad commercial and operational experience and a track record of success, likely to have been gained working at senior management level in an expanding SME. Experience of hard and soft landscaping, grounds maintenance, sports field maintenance, horticulture or agronomy would be ideal. However, we are happy to consider candidates who have managed teams working in a similar, client facing environment (logistics, construction, maintenance/facilities management etc.), who are keen to learn the intricacies of this highly technical sector and who are committed to the growth and success of the business.Operations Manager, Responsibilities;

  • Operational management; oversee strategic direction and operational success of the business, reviewing and improving processes to enhance operational performance.
  • Customer Satisfaction and Quality Management; oversee contract delivery to ensure quality standards and service level expectations are achieved and exceeded.
  • Line Management; provide leadership, support, training and development for Team Leaders and c.30 groundworkers, managing work rates and staffing levels.
  • Business Development; maximise sales and marketing opportunities with new and existing clients, developing both core business and special projects (Extras)
  • Commercial accountability; assist with budgeting, financial planning and the writing of tenders, develop pricing structures, control profit margins, improve efficiency, analyse financial performance, maximise revenue, control costs
  • Health and Safety; take responsibility for H&S matters
  • Operations Manager, Skills and Experience;
  • Senior Management experience with a track record of success, ideally gained within an expanding small-medium sized business.
  • Relevant sector experience (landscaping, grounds maintenance or horticulture would be ideal but we are happy to consider applicants who have managed teams in a similar, client facing environment (logistics, construction, maintenance/facilities management etc.) and who are keen to learn the intricacies of this highly technical sector.
  • Line Management experience with the ability to motivate, train and develop a team
  • Commercially astute and financially adept, with experience of growing a business and implementing procedures to enhance operational efficiency
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve problems, build relationships and inspire confidence at all levels
  • Strong literacy, numeracy and I.T skills
  • Driven, determined and goal focused with a flexible attitude and a good team spirit
  • Preferable - a Nebosh H&S qualification (or willing to study for one)
  • A UK driving license
