Were responsible for Hadoop based Systems of Insight within the Group. Whilst currently on-prem, were moving to the cloud, making this an excellent time to join our team on thisjourney.About the role Were the owners of the Enterprise Data Hub - a Hadoop implementation based upon Hive and Spark, currently favouring Scala. The Group has also signed up to a strategic partnership with Google to utilise their Cloud Platform services (GCP) to build a newstrategic platform for the Group to prepare our Bank of the Future service for customers. We anticipate very significant opportunity for review of our systems, data processing methods and approaches.As a Junior Software Engineer (Big Data) youll support the delivering the highest quality data processing and analytical systems.Youll be involved in data processing and analytics, drawing upon your engineering and coding expertise, whilst being open minded to the opportunities the cloud provides.Youll get to know then support key business and lab priorities, deliver code, facilitate solution designs and identify potential technical impediments then work to resolve them.What key skills youll need to apply for the role Wed welcome applicants from diverse organisational, cultural, and technological backgrounds and believe this is critical to success. As a minimum to be considered for shortlisting we need to see evidence of the following in your CV;

  • Prior experience of big data systems (large scale Hadoop, Spark, Beam, Flume, or similar data processing paradigms)either through a degree or we find people with up to three years commercial experience align well to this level of role.
  • Prior programming skills in any language ideally Scala, Python
  • Hands-on approach and knowledge of big data systems, ideally Hadoop/Spark but any exposure to big data systems for this level of role can work.
  • Any exposure to cloud technologies would be highly beneficial
