IT SYSTEMS ENGINEER - BristolWho were looking for:Our client has ambitious plans and is looking for an energetic and versatile IT Systems Engineer to join their team. Working in a start-up environment, you will participate in and influence all aspects of our IT infrastructure and services. Ours is a challenging IT environment, supporting the development of embedded software and multi-platform tools (Windows, Linux & Mac) as well as silicon chip design.You will have a proven track record and daily hands-on experience specifying, implementing and maintaining complex IT infrastructure, with:*Experience of managing and maintaining an IPv4 network using HP switches and an understanding of basic firewall management. VLAN subnetting essential, managing of Wi-Fi networks*Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Hyper-V, but including VMware, iSCSI and SAN technologies*Office 365 support and AD Sync*Experience with Linux is very useful; we use a mix of CentOS and Ubuntu*Windows server support including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Powershell*Windows and Linux integration (Samba/Winbind, Active Directory, ACLs, RID Mapping)*Windows client support (AV, backup, etc)*Understanding of tools such as OpenVPN, NFS, rsync, git, NIS, SSH, NTP, Observium*Experience of managing a physical infrastructure from measuring requirements and identifying potential solutions, to deployment and delivery including making provision for business continuity and disaster recoveryOther desirable skills include:*Understanding of scripting languages such as bash, sh, Powershell*Experience handling offices in multiple locations worldwide*OSX experience (client only)*Knowledge of site to site VPN technologies and cross site (WAN) communication*Excellent communication and organisational skills with ability to interact effectively across the company*Security know-how and ability to explain and resolve security issues*Flexibility to learn new technologies and languagesYour Technical Experience should include having integrated multi-platform systems (e.g. single sign-on across Win/Lin) and you will be comfortable providing technical support to, and collaborating with, highly technical teams. A BSc/BEng in Computer Science or a related degree would be advantageous but not required.The role The role reports to the IT Manager, based in our Bristol office.
