Job Description

The opportunityProject: Building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. The £19bn project is due to start generating electricity in 2026 and is currently the largest construction project in Europe.Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, this project will make a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year over its 60-year lifespan.Mace is one of a number of framework contractors supplying project, construction and commercial expertise as embedded contractors.The role will be working with peers in other disciplines to ensure the creation of coherent and integrated policies and systems that avoid unnecessary duplication and dissipation of effort.The role will be an effective and participative member of a team of safety, health and environmental professionals.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in creating, maintaining and improving health and safety in the workplace.
  • Influencing the multi-disciplinary team on health and safety issues relating to pre-construction planning and project evolution.
  • Developing timely project-based health and safety risk profiles to direct risk-based inspection and other assurance activities.
  • Assuring the client organisations that designers and principal contractors are complying with their requirements under Construction Regulations 2015 (Design and Management).
  • Participating and advising as a subject matter expert in constructability, maintainability and operability reviews.
  • Undertaking inspections, carry out accident investigations, keep records and write reports.
  • Coordinating and collating information required for the production of scheduled H&S reports and identify trends and early warnings of possible issues and recommend appropriate action.
  • Carrying out audits of construction activities on-site to ensure that the requirements set out in the construction phase plan are adhered to.
  • Providing advice on the interpretation and application of the H&S management system to include the provision of relevant training, briefings and information.
  • Carrying out regular behavioural safety conversations with construction contractors on site.
  • Creating and implementing programmes to underpin zero tolerance to HSE issues/problems.
  • About youYou have a NEBOSH HSE diploma or equivalent technical IOSH qualification. You hold a chartered status within a relevant industry body such as CMIOSH. You have a proven track record of achieving excellent safety results on major engineering and construction projects. You have excellent knowledge of CDM regulations, national and international HSE standards.You are digitally savvy and can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
