I am working with a rapidly growing, socially, and environmentally conscious e-commerce platform.My client is a sustainable online marketplace for top quality groceries and local produce from the very best independents around the UK, delivering them straight to your door via electric bikes and vans. Their vision is to help create wealthier, better-connectedcommunities by helping independent markets, food stores and artisan producers to thrive online against the supermarket giants. Every £1 spent with a local, independent food producer has a 60% greater economic benefit to the local community than spending itwith a large supermarket. Founded in Bristol in 2017, they now operate in several locations across the UK, including Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Oxford, Stroud, London and Leeds.They are a team of enthusiastic individuals with ambitious plans. Having already operating in six cities in the UK with hundreds of independent retailer partners who have already joined the platform and have plans to launch a further 12 this year, includinglaunching into Europe, as well as growing the number of cornerstone retailers in the existing markets.What youll be doing:
  • Your role will involve identifying new profitable markets for expansion, building profitable business plans for expansion in these markets, forming strategic partnerships in these potential markets, bringing new independent retailers and food markets intothe platform, leading the contracting process.
  • You will lead the Business Development team with the KPIs of opening targeted new profitable markets and signing targeted numbers of new cornerstone retailers into the platform.
  • The Head of Business Development role is an integral part of the business. You will work closely with operations, marketing, finance, product teams to achieve the market growth plans and sales targets.

  • Own and hit/exceed annual sales and new market growth targets within assigned territory and accounts.
  • Win strategic food market contracts within UK and European markets.
  • Win the targeted number of new cornerstone retailers to join the platform.
  • Lead the sales team in maturing existing markets by growing the number of retailers on the platform in these markets.
  • Build strategic partnerships in the potential markets such as partnerships with local councils, chambers of commerce or city representatives.
  • Explore local grants and funding to support the new market expansions.
  • Work with the Head of Operations and Finance to develop opening P&Ls for the new markets and cities for expansions.
What youll need to apply:
  • We are looking for a Head of Business Development with several years of business development experience in the food and drink industry who will bring our expansion plans to life.
  • You are a seasoned business development leader who will bring an extensive experience in business development, managing sales teams and sales pipelines, building strategic partnerships, winning new partner contracts, and building business plans for marketexpansions.
  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • Previous experience as a head of business development or head of sales, managing high performing sales teams and pipelines, with a proven record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Exceptional networking, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Influential in dealing with director or C-level executives of targeted partners.
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process and strategic partnerships from plan to contracting and close.
  • Excellent communications skills and commercial acumen.
  • Demonstrable experience of building P&Ls for new market expansion and leading market expansion plans.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent.
