Job Description

Newton Blue is the in-house/on-site recruiter for a leading central Bristol based tech co. specialising in software solutions for global healthcare insurers. We’re looking to recruit a graduate calibre Trainee Manual Software Tester to join the existingteam of 7 testers (5 in the UK and 2 in Egypt). With around 50 people in the business they are part of a global group employing over 6000 people worldwideIf you’re a recent graduate with a computer science or engineering related degree, have a naturally inquisitive mind-set and an enthusiastic outgoing personality, aren’t afraid to challenge the status-quo and want to kick-start a career in software testingthen you could be just what we’re looking for.What’s involved Working with the testing team and development teams to improve quality and reduce risk throughout the whole software development lifecycle, you’re work will help to prevent live incidents which could cause significant reputational and financialdamage.

  • Test Planning: Collaborate with product owners, senior testers and software developers to understand product requirements, specifications, and design artifacts. Assist in creating test plans and test cases based on the scope and objectives.
  • Test Execution: Execute test cases and test scripts to identify software defects, bugs, and issues. Perform functional, regression, integration, and performance testing to ensure the software meets quality standards.
  • Defect Reporting: Document and report software defects. Clearly communicate issues to the development team, including steps to reproduce, screenshots, and relevant details, to facilitate effective debugging and resolution.
  • Test Documentation: Assist in maintaining comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test reports. Update and review test artifacts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Test Environment Setup: Ensure test environments accurately represent the production environment.
  • Test Automation: Collaborate with the automation team to identify test cases suitable for automation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with software developers, business analysts, and project managers to understand requirements and effectively communicate test-related information. Participate in meetings, discussions, and reviews to provideinput and share test findings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously update your knowledge and skills related to software testing methodologies, tools, and industry best practices. Seek opportunities to improve testing processes and contribute to the overall quality assurance efforts.
  • Quality Assurance: Contribute to the overall quality assurance efforts by identifying areas for improvement in software development processes, participating in quality reviews, and suggesting process enhancements.
What are they looking for Candidates with a Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience). It’s all about the person - an inquisitive mind-set, loves taking things apart, enthusiasm,keenness to learn, and the ability to positively challenge in a constructive way.Someone ideally able to demonstrate practical experience in a number of the following:
  • Knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with testing techniques such as functional, regression, integration, and performance testing.
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and ability to read code (e.g., Java, Python, C++).
  • Experience with bug tracking systems or tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Confidently able to communicate with people at all levels of the business.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and supportive of others.
