Job Description

This impressive team of engineers develop EdTech web-based social networking software with the aim to make life in organisations of all sizes as simple and free from faff as possible so people can focus on their actual jobs.Their current product is a cloud-based service targeted at the education sector, of which 40% of the UKs schools have onboarded this technology. They are a small but evidentially effective, friendly and modern company with two offices, one of which is in Bristol. They are now looking for a Full Stack JavaScript Engineer to join their growing Engineering team.Tech stack:

    • The platform has been built from nothing on a modern, microservice based tech stack which has primarily been written in JavaScript (Node.js, React, Angular, Cordova). The product consists of a web application, mobile app and numerous reporting and admin tools. Theyve got MongoDB, Redis and Elasticsearch databases (soon to be solely MongoDB) with the service sitting on Google Kubernetes Engine. That along with a bunch of other products and tools means that theyve got some fun tech to work with.Youll be developing new features, functionality, and tools, for internal company use and external customers, as the product set naturally expands. With it being a small, tight-knit team, you will be responsible for doing what you say youre going to do. The skys the limit when it comes to the responsibilities available to you, but for starters youll be building new solutions, improving existing ones, code reviewing colleagues, interacting with customers and more generally having a positive, direct impact on the effective running of your clients.What are they up to right nowCurrently (and in the near future) they have a multitude of interesting developments that you could be a part of:
  • A responsive re-imagining of the web app.
  • Creating integrations with third-party products like Microsoft Teams.
  • Reimagining the product experience for users in meetings.
    • As a good candidate, you should have:
  • Been through the peaks and troughs of building components of a SaaS product, having to scale them and keep them running.
  • Excellent JavaScript skills, with in depth knowledge and experience of React and/or Node.js.
  • Youre excellent at organising yourself and coordinating projects involving multiple people, both locally and remotely.
  • Great, real world, problem solving skills and the tenacity to keep driving for a solution, even when you feel like you have no idea whats going on.
  • Attention to detail. Youre always coming up with edge cases and you appreciate the virtues of a well-crafted automated test.
  • Perseverance, as, unfortunately we cant promise that things will always go 100% swimmingly.
  • Oodles of curiosity. Because life isnt fun if youre not continuously learning.
    • This is a full-time role, with flexible working hours available, based in Bristol. The salary will be completely dependent on your experience but will need to be somewhere in the region of £30,000 - £40,000, give or take...
