Job Description

Job descriptionThe SDA have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Fire Certification/Recoverability Engineering professional to join our Naval Authority and Technology Group (NATG) at MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol. By joining the NATG, you will integrate witha team of highly skilled professionals and get up-close and personal with complex ship and submarine systems. You will oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst providing support to the Royal Navy and a significant contribution to project/programmesuccess.As a specialist engineer and member of the NATG, you will be an authority on Fire Certification/Recoverability and coordination of this complex/niche capability. You will lead on the development of requirements including acceptance plans, performance criteriaand draft specifications and be responsible for delivering safe, capable, and available ships, submarines, and boats to the Royal Navy. You will have specific responsibility for the delivery of timely, efficient and effective Fire Certification and Recoverabilityactivities. You will work across all MOD surface ships, submarines and boats, acting as assurance authority on all aspects of fire science and continuous improvement of systems engineering processes relating to the risk.Due to the nature of this work, working with project teams and stakeholders is critical to success. You will therefore be required to uphold strong and productive relationships and provide subject matter expert advice to ships, submarines and onboard equipmentteams, as well as MoDs prime contractors such as BAE, Babcock and Rolls-Royce.In the SDA you will have unparalleled opportunities to learn and develop as a professional and will be actively supported in this respect. Training is readily available, invested in and essential to stay abreast with new technologies and you will be workingin an environment that encourages this.Please be advised that due to the nature of security, this role is reserved for sole UK Nationals only.About the roleIn this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Investigate new and developing Fire Safety and Damage Control technologies and equipment.
  • Keeping abreast of research and development in both military and commercial sectors
  • Reviewing Officer for Fire Safety Key Hazard Certification.
  • Provide Subject Matter advice to Platform Authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake specific investigations, research, and trials as they arise.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Fire Safety and Recoverability documentation, training activities and courses.
Person specificationTo be successful with your application, youll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body.
  • Relevant Level 4 (HNC or higher) qualification in relevant subject
