Job Description

Your New roleAt National Highways, were looking for an Environment Specialist to join our team based in Bristol, Exeter or Saltash. As part of this role youll contribute to the development and delivery of projects and maintenance works for the South West region, providingtechnical expertise on environmental topics and outcomes.You may be required to work unsociable hours and will be required to drive as part of your role and will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.What youll be leading on

  • Undertake the identification and evaluation of environmental data and needs to develop future renewal and improvement projects, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence, and options for value management.
  • Identify and evaluate environmental needs relating to the development of maintenance solutions for the environmental asset, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • Monitor the delivery of agreed solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues.
  • Undertake inspections of the environment assets in scope, in like with the defined inspections regime and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure that environmental inventory and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Provide subject matter support to Project Managers, including reviewing of Health and Safety files.
  • Develop and recommend best practice and innovative approaches for identifying and evaluation environmental needs and early solutions.
  • Provide information relating to programme and budget impacts.
  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
  • Provide subject matter input into solution designs, specifications, and delivery quality.
  • Recommends improvements in the development of environment management processes and approaches.
To be Successful
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Membership of professional body
  • Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes
  • Broad knowledge of aspects and impact for varying environmental receptors
  • Knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling
  • Knowledge of DMRB standards and their application on the highways network
  • Experience in highway construction and delivery methods
  • Understanding of the EDF process
  • Knowledge of legislative frameworks
  • Experience of implementing EMS and compliance with IS0 14001
  • Experience of undertaking and reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Sustainability and net zero / carbon reduction
  • Experience of producing and reviewing Construction Environmental Management Plans
  • Supply chain and stakeholder engagement
  • Familiarity with GIS packages
  • Ability to analyse and interpret a variety of field-based results
  • Practical approach to the application of established methodologies
  • Field survey experience within relevant specialism
