Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity within the Employee Relations Team based at the Companys Head Office at Avonbank, Bristol for an Employee Relations Manager, reporting to the Resources and External Affairs Director and heading a team of professional andsupportive ER generalists and assistants, recruitment and occupational health teams.No agencies please.Job DescriptionWestern Power Distribution (WPD) owns and operates the power distribution network throughout the Midlands, South West and South Wales. The electricity industry is undergoing huge change, and we are helping provide infrastructure that will enable the countryto meet its net-zero targets. More than 6,500 employees make up our Company, unified in their ethos to serve our customers.Main ResponsibilitiesLeading a multi-site ER team across the South West, South Wales and the East and West Midlands areas, the main duties and responsibilities will include:-

  • Implementing and contributing to the overall HR strategy that supports the Company in achieving its key goals and business plans.
  • The development of policies and procedures to meet the needs of the business and in compliance with changing UK legislation and case law.
  • Negotiating with Trade Unions on remuneration and benefits
  • The provision of advice, guidance and support on all employee-related matters - eg Employment legislation including employment tribunal cases, company employment policies and procedures, grievances, disciplinary, attendance, health and welfare matters.
  • Driving the diversity, equity and inclusion action plan, and reporting on WPDs gender pay gap annually.
  • Liaising with regional Trade Union Officers and local TU representatives on negotiating and consultative matters, maintaining stable and constructive employee relations.
  • Assisting and supporting business managers on negotiating matters
  • Providing advice and guidance on the development and implementation of organisational and working practice changes.
  • Undertaking grading reviews and the process of allocating jobs to grades.
  • Facilitating the employee engagement agenda.
  • Review and oversight of Company health and wellbeing programmes including case management, health surveillance, Employee Assistance programme and Managed Back-Care programme.
  • Liaising with ACAS, Employment Lawyers, Electricity Networks Association (ENA) and other external stakeholders as required.
  • Provision of employment services, including administration, staff communications and succession planning.
  • Oversight of compliance and ethics, and the employee concerns helpline.
The Ideal CandidateTo be considered for this appointment, you will be an experienced ER/HR manager, ideally with wide experience in a unionised environment. You should be a confident and credible HR professional with well-developed relationship manager skills to work withkey stakeholders as well as the wider ER team. This role would suit a candidate with a strong generalist HR background preferably within the Energy / Utilities or related sectors.A CIPD qualification at Chartered Member professional level, or extensive experience in Human Resource Management is required together with a qualification in Employment law at level 5 or above is desirable, or the ability to demonstrate extensive knowledgeof current employment law.
