Job Description Defence Intellectual Property SpecialistBristolWhy Rolls-RoyceAn exciting new role has arisen for an engineering intellectual property specialist to support the Rolls-Royce Defence business in Bristol.Rolls-Royce designs, develops, manufactures and services integrated power systems for use in the air, on land and at sea. We are one of the worlds leading producers of aero engines for large civil aircraft and corporate jets. We are the second largestprovider of Defense aero engines and services in the world. Rolls-Royce reciprocating engines and systems can be found in marine, distributed energy, oil and gas, rail and off-highway vehicle applications. Rolls-Royce also provides instrumentation, productand service capability for both civil and military nuclear power generators.The Rolls-Royce UK Defence business is seeking an intellectual property specialist to join our team. This position will support the business efforts to identify, develop, protect and exploit a high-quality portfolio of IP that furthers the goals of Rolls-Royce.Working with and within our engineering teams developing cutting-edge technologies for Defence applications, you will lead our efforts to identify, develop, protect and exploit a high-quality portfolio of IP that furthers the goals of Rolls-Royce. Workingwith other specialists in Group IP, Legal, Export Control and Commercial, you will act as the link ensuring that we extract maximum value from that portfolio. You will provide guidance and advice to colleagues across the business, helping to shape the strategicdirection of technology development.Work with us and well welcome you into an inclusive culture, one that invests in your continuous learning and development, and gives you access to a wide breadth and depth of experience.What you will be doingAs part of the General Counsel function, you will work within and as part of the Engineering and design teams that are developing the next generation of technologies for use in military aerospace and naval products, to:

  • Identify the technologies that will be key to Rolls-Royces competitive advantage;
  • Influence the ways in which the Engineering teams develop, design and protect those technologies to ensure maximum benefit to Rolls-Royce;
  • Maintain a detailed overview of what key technologies are being, could be or should be developed across the portfolio of Engineering development programmes;
  • Provide advice to the Engineering function on the protection of the key technologies involved in each programme

  • Domain knowledge in the design and development of gas turbine technologies;
  • Working experience of research and technology acquisition and technology maturity methods
  • The ability provide coaching and guidance to senior, peer and junior engineers;
  • Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
  • experience or qualifications in intellectual property law, or be willing to gain relevant qualifications in this field.
